Google Announces New Policy for Cryptocurrency Ads

Google recently announced that they will be banning cryptocurrency exchanges and advertising related to cryptocurrency starting in June. This means that they will no longer be able to advertise services that facilitate cryptocurrency transactions, including exchanges, wallets, and many other cryptocurrency related products and services.

The launch of Google’s new policy for cryptocurrency-related ads is a result of a recent enforcement decision by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that classified digital assets and cryptocurrencies as securities. Google has a history of banning ads for cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings (ICOs) after they received a complaint from the SEC. This new policy, however, does not ban ads for digital assets, but prohibits ads that promote cryptocurrency mining, exchanges, and other cryptocurrency-related services.

Google introduces new rules for ads for crypto currency

Google Inc. on Wednesday issued an announcement about its new policy on cryptocurrency ads. This policy will apply globally to all accounts that advertise these financial products, the Internet giant wrote. The notice states that Google will update its existing Financial Products and Services Policy in August to clarify the scope of and requirements for advertising permission for crypto-currency related businesses and services. The tech giant wrote: Of the 3. August, advertisers offering cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets targeted to the U.S. can promote these products and services, provided they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google. The company went on to explain how advertisers can certify. First, they must be registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money transmitter and as a money transmitter in at least one state. Alternatively, advertisers may be a federally or state registered banking organization. In addition, Google notes that advertisers must comply with all relevant legal requirements, including state, local and federal laws, and ensure that their ads and landing pages comply with all Google Ads policies.
